Splash park to open this weekend

Royse City’s first splash park will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and the parents and children are invited.
Local children will get to inaugurate the Walker-Hawk Splash Park after the grand opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
Located along State Highway 66, the six-acre park includes a pavilion and spray ground. It is also to include playground equipment, scheduled to arrive Wednesday, and, if weather permits, it will be installed by Saturday. The park will open even if rain has prevented installation.
These features are just the first phase of what will probably end up being two more phases of construction, said the city’s parks director, Randall Nichols.
Future work includes trail connections to Walker-Hawk Sports Complex and Old Mill Park, with trails navigating the entire park grouping.
Also in discussion stage, are a spray ground installation, upgrades to the playground, and trails and possibly tennis courts at the City Lake Park. Plans for the park are not set, and these are simply ideas being discussed, Nichols noted, but that improvements are definitely to be done.
Royse City families and community are encouraged to celebrate together the newest park opening.
