Area residents indicted by Hunt grand jury

Rockwall County — The Hunt County grand jury returned multiple indictments this month against local and area residents in connection with alleged sexual attacks on children.

— Joseph Edward Brimberry, 39, of Royse City, was indicted on one count of indecency with a child by contact. Brimberry was alleged in the indictment to have molested a female victim of less than 17 years of age on Aug. 15, 2009. The indictment listed previous felony convictions against Brimberry for forgery, involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

— Ronnie Dean Welch, 53, of Royse City, was indicted on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Welch was alleged in the indictment to have assaulted a female victim of less than 14 years of age on Nov. 1, 2008.

— Wesley Freeman Smallwood, 57, of Caddo Mills, was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact. Smallwood was alleged in the indictment to have assaulted a female victim of less than 14 years of age on June 1 and July 1, 2009.

The charges were among a record 91 indictments — believed to be the most ever returned by a Hunt County grand jury in one day — issue by the panel Oct. 22. The indictments included 28 charges issued sealed, pending the arrest and arraignment of the person or persons named in the indictments.
