Obituaries for the week of August 13
Oscar Hughes
Oscar Paul Hughes, 70, of Royse City died Aug. 4, 2008.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Bristol, Va., to Sherman and Leoka (Mays) Hughes. Mr. Hughes served his country in the United States Army. He had two passions: tending his flower garden and driving his truck for Dallas Carriers and Continental Transportation.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Frances Hughes of Royse City; daughters Kim Burton, Patti Moore, Lori Hughes and Wendy Bowrey; a son, Clay Hughes; brother Scotty Hughes; sisters Maxi and Joy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Hughes.
Services will be held in Virginia at a later date.
Rest Haven Funeral Home-Royse City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Erby Campbell
Erby Lee Campbell, 86, a lifetime Royse City resident, died Aug. 6, 2008.
He was born April 24, 1922, in Burrow, son of William Frank and Josie (Birdwell) Campbell. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Campbell was a past sheriff of Rockwall County, past fire chief of the Royse City Fire Department and past mayor of Royse City. He married Julia Belle “Judy” Harrell on July 20, 1946; they had been married 62 years. Mr. Campbell owned and operated Campbell Tractor and Implement in Royse City for many years and was a member of First Christian Church in Royse City, where he served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife of Royse City; a daughter, Judy Tamez and husband Gino of Garland; a son, Kenny Campbell amd wife Jeri Ann of Kaufman; sisters Evelyn Campbell of Burrow and Mittie Frazier of Rockwall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe Frank and Pood.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Aug. 9, at First Christian Church, Royse City. Interment followed in the Royse City Cemetery.
