David White

Born May 7, 1936, David Harrell White went to be with his Lord our Savior on Aug. 12, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He married Lila May Poovey on July 8, 1955; they were married 53 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Second to his family, David’s biggest love was fishing. He enjoyed fishing anywhere from the lakes of Texas to the open waters of Alaska, and many spots in between. He never found a spot where he didn’t catch the “Big One.”

When not fishing, David made his living as a builder. He shared his love of Christ everywhere he went and was proud to call himself a Christian. He loved being with and giving to others. He ran in six marathons, raising thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure. An avid church member, David will be remembered as a kind, honest and giving person.

He is survived by his wife of Royse City; daughters and sons-in-law Debra Newman and Harold Otto of Marble Falls, Donna and Rich Potter of Frankston, Darla and Rocky Williams of Wylie; grandchildren and spouses Tonda and Josh Stampfer, Brandon and Melina Cozby, and grandchildren James Russell III, Meghan Russell, Kelsey Potter, Secily, Sierra, Greyson and Sheridan Williams; honorary grandchild Casey Peoples; great-grandchildren Taylor, Jake and Kali Stampfer and future great-grandchild Colton Cozby; brothers, sisters and their spouses, Katherine Davis of Royse City, Billy Jack and Runelle White of Rockwall, Larry and Betty White of Quitman, Jerry and Linda White of Nevada, Texas, Tim and Sue Ann White of Royse City, Mary Ann White of Dallas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maude White, and by brothers George Jr. White and Ralph White.

A funeral service was held Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Free Methodist Church, Rockwall, under the direction of Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel.
