Lady Dawgs take 13-4 record into district

The Royse City Lady Bulldogs are heading into district with a 13-4 record after beating Heritage Christian Academy by run-rule with a score of 16-5 on Friday evening at home.

The Lady Bulldogs began district competition on Tuesday night with an away game against Community. Results from that competition were not available at press time.

The Lady Dawgs recorded 17 hits and one error in the competition against the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Bulldogs had held HCA scoreless until the fifth inning when the Lady Eagles managed three scores. A well-placed double in the sixth inning allowed two more runs for the Lady Eagles before the side was retired and the game was run-ruled.

RCHS coach James Bain noted that the team is going into district a little short-handed.

“We’re real banged up right now,” Bain said of an injury-plagued team. “We’re just trying to get healed up and well right now.”

Freshman Kourtney Kelley moved up to varsity from the JV team to fill in injury gaps and take the win from the pitcher’s mound on Friday. Alicia Pille is another freshman pitcher that is expected to see action for the varsity team as district play begins this week.

The Lady Bulldogs are hoping to make their fifth straight playoff appearance in their last season as a 3A program.
