Strahm to lead Bulldogs into UIL’s 4A arena

Royse City ISD has announced that Greg Strahm was named last Tuesday night as the boy’s athletic director and head football coach at Royse City High School.

Coach Strahm is enthusiastic about the upcoming season, “I think given our situation as the small 4-A in our new district, we have the opportunity to be the spoiler. Our kids have a winning mentality and finished a very successful season and don’t like or know how to lose. 2008 football should be fun to watch.”

Strahm began his coaching career at Eagle Pass High School in 1987 as a football and track coach, the next year he was hired as defensive coordinator at Lexington High School.

Strahm served seven successful years as defensive coordinator for Royse City High School before advancing to 5A high schools at Rockwall and Garland from 1997 to 2006.

In 2006 Greg came back to Royse City High to serve as the strengthening and track coordinator and football coach.

Board President Bobby Summers spoke highly of Strahm, “We are really excited about Coach Strahm as head football coach. Greg was just a young man when he came to Royse City in the early 90’s and we could see his potential back then, not only his coaching strategies, but how great he works with the kids. Now he’s back here with his family and it’s like he never missed a beat. We thought so much of Rodney Webb and we were looking for someone that had the integrity and character that Webb brought to our district and we found that in Greg Strahm.”

A graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science, Strahm was the starting linebacker for the Wildcats for four seasons.

“Welcome home Coach Strahm,” said Jo Nell Mellody, RCISD director of community relations. “Royse City ISD is eagerly anticipating this upcoming football season with Strahm as our new head coach, in a new 4A division and opening our new world class stadium, with state-of-the-art scoreboard.”
