Two Lady Bulldogs sign with colleges

From staff reports

ROYSE CITY — State silver medalist pole vaulter Charvia Bell and all-district basketball player Carmisha Harper of Royse City have signed letters of intent with college athletic programs.

Bell, who was second in the Class 3A pole vault at the University Interscholastic League state track and field championships, signed with the University of North Texas to compete in track and field.

“I can tell I’m really going to improve,” said Bell, who set a new school record for Royse City by clearing 11 feet 3 inches. “They (the Eagles) have a coaching style the same as Paul Richards, my private coach for two years.”

Bell was the District 10-3A champion in the pole vault and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles. She also finished second at the Region II-3A championship in the pole vault.

Bell shared the most valuable player award with two other players in District 10-3A volleyball after helping the 28-11-2 Lady Bulldogs reach the Region II-3A finals.

Harper has signed to play basketball at the University of Saint Mary in Levenworth, Kan.

Harper was a first-team all-district 10-3A selection at guard for the Lady Bulldogs and also earned second-team all-district honors as a junior.

She also won two firsts (4x100, 4x200 relays), two seconds (long jump, triple jump) and a third (100-meter dash) at the District 10-3A track and field meet. Harper ran the second leg on Royse City’s 4x200-meter relay team that finished sixth at the Region II-3A meet.

She said she’s looking foward to playing for Saint Mary and that the coaching style is similar to the style of her coach on the Dallas Diesels’ AAU team.
