Local youth competes in Junior Olympic Qualifier

Royse City High School student Wynn Posey competed recently in the Junior Olympic Championships.

July 8-12 the region 12 Junior Olympic Championships were held in Homer Clark Stadium in Ft. Worth.

The top two qualifiers in each event advanced to the Junior Olympic Championship in Omaha , Nebraska. Posey competed for three days in the contest. The first two days he participated in the decathlon and on day three he competed in the javelin.

Day one of the decathlon begins with the 100 meter dash, followed with the long jump, then the shot put , followed by the high jump and day one ends with the 400 meter dash. Day two started with the 110 hurdles followed by the discus throw, followed by the pole vault and then the javelin and day two ended the competition with the 1500 meter run. The top two finishers automatically qualified for the Junior Olympics with third place a provisional qualifier. Wynn finished fifth with a strong finish the second day in which he placed fourth in the discus, third in the pole vault, first in the javelin with a throw of 148’ 10, and third in the 1500 with a personal best of 5:02. Posey finished the competition with 5025 points one point behind Robbie Thayer of Wylie 5026 points.

Day three saw Posey compete in the open javelin competition. Wynn finished fourth with a best throw of 143’06 . Posey will be a senior at Royse City High School.
