In memory of their friend who would have been a senior this year, but succumbed to a heart ailment while in the fourth grade, Royse City High School seniors are holding a walk on Saturday, April 25, and invite everyone to join them.

“A Walk from the Heart” is in memory of Meagan Davis, who died in 2001 on the school playground from an undetected heart defect — an enlarged heart due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

“Meagan passed away when our seniors were in fourth grade and she would have graduated this year,” said Erin Strahm, sponsor of the Royse City High School student council.

“We wanted to hold a walk-a-thon in her memory that would help out our seniors and promote a healthy heart,” she said.

All proceeds of the walk will go to the senior class. The class is getting individual sponsors to donate to individual scholarships for college. Sponsors are providing booths and snacks, also.

“They are not to ask anyone here at the high school to sponsor them, but we would love for the staff to come out and walk with us the day of the walk,” Strahm said.

Everyone is encouraged to wear crazy hats, socks and shoes, and paint their faces.

The walk will last an hour and begins at 9 a.m. April 25, taking place at the Royse City High School football stadium.

Pre-registration is $20, and includes a T-shirt. Cash only is accepted; pre-register at Royse City City Hall and at Royse City High School.

Late registration is $25, at 8 a.m., the day of the walk.
