Rise in cases continues

Rockwall County’s COVID-19 statistics continue to rise sharply, with a notable increase in the number of patients hospitalized with the virus during the past week, and another death reported during the interim.

However, the total number of the county’s active cases declined significantly, as there was a corresponding boost in the number of recoveries reported.

The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management was reporting a total of 2,359 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday morning, an increase of 131 cases since Nov. 10. There were 185 active cases reported, a decrease of 13 patients from what had been reported one week earlier.

A total of 55 people were reported with COVID-19 in Rockwall County hospitals as of Tuesday, 17 more than one week earlier, including 11 patients reported in ICU, a number unchanged since Nov. 10.

A total of 34 deaths were reported as a result of COVID-19, one more than one week earlier and six more within the past month.

There were also 2,140 recoveries reported, 143 more than during the previous week.

The Texas Department of State Health Services indicated there had been 28,459 COVID-19 tests conducted in the county as of press time Tuesday, 3,827 more in one week.

The Rockwall and Royse school districts are each posting daily COVID-19 dashboards online. The Rockwall ISD report, as of Tuesday, indicated there were 77 student cases and 17 staff cases reported in the district, with 138 students instructed to stay at home, as well as 64 staff members.

The Royse City ISD report indicated there were three elementary school students confirmed with COVID-19 Tuesday, with eight students cleared to return. Four elementary staff members were reported with the virus Tuesday, with 11 staff members cleared to return.

There were nine Royse City middle school students with COVID-19 Tuesday, with 10 students and two middle school staff members cleared to return.

Twelve Royse City high school students and two staff members were affected with the virus Tuesday, with another 17 students and one staff member cleared to return to campus.

One more Royse City ISD staff member was reported with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, with two more staff members cleared to return.

LakePointe Church, 701 E. Interstate 30 in Rockwall, is serving as a static testing site through December.

The testing is free. There are no requirements for the test and participants are asked to register at GoGetTested.com.

Testing is scheduled to be available seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and from 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

Results will be available in 48-96 hours and positive results will receive a medical consultation from a provider.
