The second annual “Back 2 School Bash” will be held in downtown Royse City on Aug. 22 to give everyone – especially the kids – an opportunity to celebrate the end of summer and the start of a new school year.
Main Street will be blocked for the event, scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Paula Morris, manager of the Royse City Main Street program, said the event will feature a variety of activities, including face-painting, inflatables, dunk tank, games, music, popcorn, cotton candy and many giveaway items.
She said Main Street businesses will also stay open later than usual that night and offer specials for their customers.
The event, Morris said, is sponsored by the Main Street program, HOTRC (Historic Old Town Royse City) merchants association, “merchants, businesses and organizations who proudly serve the citizens of Royse City.”
Morris added that Royse City Independent School District officials have worked hard to help make the back-to-school event a success.
The city council and various city departments will also participate.
With Main Street blocked off for the celebration, Morris wanted participants to know that parking at City Hall will be available.
Another event is scheduled to help students – and their parents – prepare for the first day of classes in Royse City on Aug. 25.
Four Winds Church at 7443 Texas 66 in Royse City will sponsor a “Back-To-School Supply Giveaway” at the church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
A student must be present when supplies are picked up, according to a flier promoting the event. Also, parents must bring a supply list for students who attend school outside the Royse City school district.
The flier stated that supplies are free as long as they last.
