Records show that last week’s circus attendance was the largest ever, with 1,512 people attending the two performances of the Kelly Miller Circus sponsored by the Royse City Chamber of Commerce.

“They’re just unbelievable,” said Chamber Executivee Director Shayna Levine of the circus troop based in Hugo, Okla. “They came in and set up. Then they’re doing two shows (the next day) in Frisco. I don’t know how they do it. They just must be very organized.”

The circus was held March 29 near the Anita Scott Elementary School as one of the fund-raisers for the Royse City Chamber of Commerce. Shows were held at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

“It doesn’t raise a huge amount of funds,” said Levine. “We do it more just because it’s a fun thing to do for the community. We use the funds that we raise (at this and all other Chamber functions) for operating the Chamber and for our scholarship fund.”

Levine is very grateful for the local help received in holding the event.

“We had the police out there directing traffic for us, along with eight or nine members of our local Explorer Troop (youth group affiliated with the Fire Department). IESI also donated a huge dumpster for the event, and came out to take it away and help with clean-up at no cost. If you go out there (the next morning), you wouldn’t even know they had been there,” Levine said.

Levine also wishes to thank the ticket vendors; Royse City Pharmacy, the City Water Department, American National Bank, Paul Chiropractic, and the Stonebrook Learning Center.

The Chamber’s next fund-raiser event will be its fifth annual golf tournament Friday, April 21 at the AAKI Ranch International Golf Course in Royse City.

The competition will be held in a four person team scramble format with tee-off time slated for 1 p.m. For more information, call the Chamber at 972 -636-5000.
