A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday to officially mark the beginning of construction on the Interstate 30 overpass at Erby Campbell Boulevard in Royse City.
The event will be held at the Walker-Hawk Sports Complex on Erby Campbell Boulevard, beginning at 2 p.m.
County Commissioner David Magness, who is planning the event, said a sign will be unveiled after the groundbreaking ceremony.
City, county and state officials have been invited to participate. Congressman Ralph Hall and relatives of Erby Campbell have also been invited to attend, Magness said.
Speakers during the brief ceremony are expected to include County Judge Jerry Hogan and Magness.
Magness said a decision was made to hold the ceremony at Walker-Hawk instead of the overpass site because of parking and safety concerns. In case there is inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Mellody Room at City Hall.
