Guest of honor

Lupe Garcia, left, was the guest of honor during the recent tour of the new Lupe Garcia Elementary School, scheduled to open in Fate this fall.

Officials with the Rockwall Independent School district joined earlier this month with Fate Mayor David Billings,  Fate City Council members and city officials and the namesake of the new Lupe Garcia Elementary School for a tour of the facility, scheduled to open for the fall semester.

The first day of school in the Rockwall ISD is on August 18.

On January 5, the Rockwall ISD board of trustees’ Naming Facilities Committee began accepting nominations for the designation of Elementary School 16 located at 310 Williamsburg Parkway in Fate.

In February, the board voted to name the campus Lupe Garcia Elementary School, after the longtime classroom educator. Garcia’s career spanned 40 years serving as a Dobbs Elenentary School teacher.

The school will open in fall 2021.

Steven Pesek was named as the school’s first principal. Pesek has 19 years of public education experience, including five years as the principal of Shannon Elementary School.
