Volunteers are being sought to be a part of a team called to assist in times of need.

The East Texas Community Emergency Response Team, also known as CERT, serves Hunt, Rockwall, Kaufman and Van Zandt counties and also the Town of Sunnyvale.

CERT is a program through FEMA to help train and organize local citizens to help during disasters or other times of need. The EastTex Regional CERT is sponsored by the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management, and helps local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management during public events, post-disaster recovery, or for missing person searches.

The organization is holding its next training class on Oct 19t and 26t from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Terrell Police Department, 1100 State Highway 34 in Terrell.

The free two day class will teach volunteers preparedness tips to help protect their family.

Those participating can choose to be an active member of the team and be put on the team’s call out list in the event of emergencies.
