Royse City is hosting a Veterans Day celebration for veterans and community members Nov. 16.
The event will include live music, a display of military vehicles from the Military Heritage Collection of North Texas, a blood drive and vendors.
Big Guss and Swampadelic will take the stage at 7 p.m. followed by Ben Haggard at 8:30 p.m. The performance stage will be in the area across Royse City City Hall at 305 N. Arch St.
“The event is free to attend, it will be in front of city hall,” Main Street Manager Paula Morris said. “Arch Street will be barricaded for safety.”
The celebration will have an opening ceremony to honor the occasion and veterans beginning at 6:30 p.m., and the Royse City American Legion Post No. 100 is helping with the ceremony.
“Our chaplain will say a prayer and we’ll do the invocation,” Jason Castleberry with the American Legion said. “We’re going to have some of our junior members lead the Pledge of Allegiance.”
In addition to helping with the ceremony Castleberry said the American Legion Post will have a booth for games and the American Legion Auxiliary will announce its Veterans Day Art Contest winners and present them awards.
Castleberry, a veteran himself, said the event is important to him and other veterans.
“It’s definitely important to us as veterans that the city would do something like this,” he said. “We understand that it’s not like that in every community across this country so when you have a community that does care for its veterans like Royse City, it really means a lot to us.”
The celebration is from 6:30-10 p.m. Nov. 16 in front of Royse City City Hall, 305 N. Arch St., and is free and open to the public to attend.
