Royse City families, friends and neighbors will get to enjoy food, fun and more this Saturday as the Royse City Chamber of Commerce holds its annual “FunFest.”
Going on its 30th year, FunFest has continued to grow in size and events and will feature more than 170 vendors, live music from different bands, a donut eating contest and so much more. There will also be a “Kidzone” full of activities for children, including face painting, bounce houses, pony rides and other kid-friendly activities.
Vanessa Stahl with the chamber mentioned the new addition of a one mile “Fun Run” in addition to the “Runfest” 5K.
“The committee this year added in a 1-mile ‘FunRun’ that will start at 9:30 a.m. and this is for anyone who may want to get out there but doesn't want to do the entire 5K race,” Stahl said. “It's a great way to get outside with family members, children, neighbors and enjoy the Fall weather before heading on over to FunFest.”
This year, the event will see the return of The Old West Texas Gunfighters as the group returns with three shows. Their last appearance at the festival was five years ago.
“We thought this is always an entertaining thing to watch and kids love watching the actors take us back to a different time period,” Stahl said.
Also new to the festival is a donut eating contest and corn hole tournament in addition to live entertainment by the Hat Trick Texas Band and The Morris Bros. The festival will be on Main and Arch streets in downtown Royse City from 12-6 p.m. However, Main Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Stahl, who has been active in planning the annual event from start to finish, credits the help of volunteers in helping get the event together.
“It's the little things that are planned months in advance that make this event great,” she said. “I love how many people come together to volunteer their time whether to put out signs, post on social media. Amanda Self and her team have gone above and beyond putting together RunFest5K.”
With the event days away she’s ready to see it come to life on Saturday.
“We love Royse City though and once it's all put together it is a very cool thing to sit back and view… that it all works out. We are anticipating perfect Fall weather and another wonderful day in the great Royse City. We cannot wait to celebrate 30 years with everyone!”
