Royse City High School’s District 15-5A championship boys basketball was well reflected in postseason awards as four Bulldogs made the all-district first team and RCHS senior Jacob Stites was named the district’s Offensive MVP.

The Bulldogs’ Brian Jacobs was named Coach of the Year as Royse City improved from a 1-13 record in district games in 2016-17 to 12-2 this season.

Stites averaged 13.4 points per game and shot 45 percent from the floor, including 46 percent from three-point range. He was an 87-percent shooter at the free throw line and led the district in steals with 59.

Other first-team selections were senior guard Donald Garrett, junior guard Quincy Onyema and senior forward Zion Leach.

Named to the second team were senior guard Walter Porter, senior forward Dylan Schwartz and junior guard Justin Thompson.  Junior forward Gage Rainey received honorable mention.

The league’s Player of the Year was Will Enzor of Highland Park, and Aaron Rideaux of Forney was honored as the Defensive MVP.

“We had a great bunch of guys,” Jacobs said. “What I really liked was seeing the excitement and interest in the team just build as the year went on. By the end of the season, almost the whole town was caught up in it.  As the coach, that will probably be my greatest memory.”
