This week’s Royse City sports roundup:
District games begin this weekend for the Lady Bulldogs (12-13) after the team wrapped up a tough non-district schedule by adding two wins last week.
Royse City hosted Emory Rains on Tuesday and won in three sets, with a final score of 3-1.
On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Carrollton Ranchview and won.
District play begins this week at home with a matchup with Highland Park (13-16), which finished third — behind Lucas Lovejoy and Forney — in District 15-5A last season. The Scots’ roster lists a handful of underclassmen and just five seniors. Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m., on Friday.
Next week, Royse City will play on the road at Mesquite Poteet (15-11), who has won 9 out of the last 10 games. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday.
Lucas Lovejoy finished at the top of District 15-5A last season and was ranked fourth in Class 5A in the pre-season Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll. Perhaps the most talented team the Lady Bulldogs will face this year, Royse City will play Lovejoy at home next Friday for the team’s third district contest of the season.
The Royse City boys and girls teams participated in the Raider XC Invitational in Wylie over the weekend. Tanner Townsend finished in second place overall in the 5,000 meter run (15:57.10). The Bulldogs will continue competition at a meet in McKinney this Saturday.
