The Royse City boys basketball team finds itself in a situation strangely similar to that of a year ago – fighting to hold onto the fourth and final playoff spot.

The Bulldogs dropped district contests last week to Wylie East and Lovejoy, falling into a tie with the Raiders for that fourth spot and Greenville just one game behind with three to play.

Royse City (5-6 district) opened the week with a 70-53 loss to Wylie East (5-6) as the Raiders shot 52 percent from the floor during the contest.

Cameron Caffee led RCHS with 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but the team was outrebounded by a 36-23 margin.

On Friday, Royse City suffered a 40-35 setback to second-place Lovejoy (9-2), despite an 11-point outing from Joseph Steffen.

The Bulldogs managed to go to the line just once while Lovejoy attempted 20 free throws in the game.

Royse City hit the road to face Wylie (7-4) on Tuesday and will also be on the road when the Bulldogs meet Greenville (4-7) on Friday. Both contests are scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs played their final home games last week, losing to Wylie East, 60-48, and then to Lovejoy, 57-35.

Alexis Wanton led the girls with 12 points against Lovejoy.

The Lady Bulldogs close out the season Tuesday at Wylie.
