The Royse City Lady Bulldogs are ranked No. 7 in Class 5A basketball after claiming a pair of victories last week.
The Lady Bulldogs beat Denison 44-32 and Rockwall 54-46 to improve to 12-4 for the season. They're ranked seventh by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Maci Bookout led the Lady Bulldogs against Denison with a game-high 16 points. Maggie Hutka fired in seven points, while McKenna Anderson and Zariah Pettus both added six points and Kyla McMinn tossed in four.
Taryn Gaines paced Denison with 12 points and Jade Fry added eight.
Hutka topped Royse City against Rockwall with 14 points, while Bookout scored 11, McMinn tallied eight and Shelby Aldridge and Nicole Weaver both tossed in five. Anderson and Pettus both chipped in four points.
Mikki Witcher led Rockwall with 10 points, while Cailtyn Jordan pumped in nine.
Royse City led Rockwall 18-5 after one quarter.
Both Royse City varsity teams will be competing in tournaments this week in Orlando, Fla.
The Lady Bulldogs are competing in the KSA Events Classic at the Orange County Convention Center. They will play Broken Arrow (Okla.) at 10 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, then Lakeland Regional High School (N.J.) at 1 p.m. on Friday and then Governor Mifflin (Pa.) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are also in the KSA Events Classic at the same venue in Orlando. They’re in the gray bracket and will open the tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday against Bentonville, Ark. The Bulldogs’ bracket also includes teams from Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and Utah.
