ORLANDO, Fla. — The Royse City Lady Bulldogs won a basketball tournament and visited theme parks and Universal Studios this past weekend.
Led by the tournament’s most valuable player, Maggie Hutka, the Lady Bulldogs went 3-0 to win the red bracket of the KSA Classic Basketball Tournament.
Royse City defeated previously undefeated Governor Mifflin of Pennsylvania, 61-60 in the championship game. Hutka led Royse City with 25 points and Maci Bookout tossed in 13.
“What a great game and we are so proud of their efforts all week,” said Royse City coach Dallas Bookout. “Now to relax and enjoy Universal Studios!”
Royse City beat Lakeland Regional of New Jersey 51-25 in its second game of the tournament. Kyla McMinn fired in 16 points to lead Royse City and Hutka added 15.
Royse City opened the tournament with a 56-44 win over Broken Arrow of Oklahoma. McMinn and Zariah Pettus both scored 13 point to lead Royse City in that game.
Royse City, now 15-4 for the season, is ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Bulldogs, who played in the boys tournament in Orlando, went 1-2 with a 61-55 victory over Greater Latrobe (Pa.) and losses of 54-33 to Bentonville, Ark. and 52-46 Thomas More (La.).
