Almost 30 varsity basketball teams will hit the hardwood at Royse City schools this weekend for the Craig Bowers Invitational Tournament, running Thursday through Saturday.

The actions starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and championship games are scheduled for 7 p.m. (girls) and 8:30 p.m. (boys) Saturday night.

Royse City’s boys — fresh off a tournament title at Rains last week — open the tournament at 11:30 a.m. Thursday against Sulphur Springs, then will face either Lindale or Frisco Independence in the second round Friday.

Also included on the boys’ side are Dallas Carter, McKinney Boyd, Mount Pleasant, Skyline, John Tyler, Saginaw, Terrell, Frisco Heritage, North Mesquite, Greenville, Wylie East and Seagoville.

While the boys head straight into a classic bracket format, the girls will begin their tournament with pool play Thursday and into the following day.

The winner of each of the four pools will advance to the Gold (Championship) Bracket, while runners-up head to the Silver Bracket and all others teams will compete in the Bronze (Consolation)Bracket.

Royse City’s Lady Bulldogs will compete in Pool A against Prosper, Community and Pine Bluff, Ark. Royse City will take on Community at 1 p.m. Thursday and meet Prosper later that night at 8:30 p.m.

Pool B consists of Dallas Christian, Forney and Lake Highlands; Pool C includes Frisco Centennial, Rockwall-Heath and Rains; and Pool D includes Celina, Wylie East and Greenville.
