Rockwall and Richardson youth hockey associations have announced a joint venture for the 2010-11 high school hockey season.

The varsity and junior varsity teams have been combined between Rockwall ISD and Richardson ISD with the sole purpose of maintaining the promotion and growth of high school hockey in their respective associations.

The mutual goal is to keep as many new and returning players as possible on the ice for this season with the anticipation of the increase in numbers of eligible players in their respective associations for subsequent seasons.

All practices will be held at Ice Training Center in Richardson. Varsity and junior varsity teams will play at the silver division level as recognized in the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League.

All interested new and returning players from Rockwall, Royse City and Wylie ISD’s and Richardson ISD entering grades 8-12 are eligible Tryout will be held Thursday, July 1. Registration opens at 5 p.m. with ice time scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Ice Training Center, 522 Centennial Blvd. in Richardson.

“We are excited to announce that Danny Mignault will be back as the coach of the varsity team,” said hockey parent David White, president of the Rockwall Youth Hockey Association.

“Last season Coach Mignault received the honor of being named Coach of the Year. The JV team will be coached by Mike Steele.”
