Boys basketball 

The Bulldogs’ first-round playoff game against Marshall at Tyler JC on Tuesday night ended after our publication deadlines.

The winner will play either Friday or Saturday against either Prosper (29-3) or Frisco Heritage (19-14), who also met in a Tuesday night first-round game.

Last week, the Bulldogs (24-7) made the most of their final home game as they defeated Forney, 58-56, in overtime to clinch the school’s first district championship since 2008.

Five graduating players were recognized on Senior Night, including Donald Garrett (17 points) and Jacob Stites (14), who were the ‘Dogs’ leading scorers against Forney.

Royse City (24-7 overall) finished with a 12-2 record in District 15-5A games with Forney in second at 11-3.


It was a winless, scoreless week forRCHS as the boys took 2-0 losses to both Mesquite Poteet and Highland Park, while the girls were beaten 6-0 by the same two teams.

Friday night’s opponent is West Mesquite, with the girls playing at RCISD Stadium and the boys on the road.


Reported scores from last weekend’s tournament in Carrollton were a 15-0 win vs. Grand Prairie and a 5-4 loss to Ennis. This weekend’s tournament is in White Oak and begins Thursday. 


The Bulldogs’ season-opening tournament will be played at the school beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday.
