This week’s Royse City sports roundup:
The Lady Bulldogs (2-1, 10-3-1) opened District 15-5A play with a bi-polar week, defeating West Mesquite, 21-1, at home before falling, 12-0, at Forney.
The West Mesquite game was called after two and one-half innings as Royse City followed a 7-run first inning with a 14-run second.
Winning pitcher Brooke Johnson allowed only one hit and freshman Madison Doherty had 5 RBI including a grand slam home run in the first.
At Forney, Royse City was limited to one hit (by Kenzee Hessert) in a four and one-half inning game.
Monday brought a home date with Wylie East, with Lauren Skinner’s three hits leading the way to a 7-2 win.
RCHS plays at North Forney tonight with first pitch at 7 p.m.
The ‘Dogs (9-7) won three games and lost three in a tournament at Lake Highlands last weekend.
Pitcher Brandon Fite went six innings and struck out six in a 7-1 win over Naaman Forest while pitcher Drayton Harris went the distance and struck out 9ninein an 8-6 win over Temple. The Bulldogs’ third win was 4-3 over 6A Mesquite Horn.
Coach Clay Wolfe’s team will be active over spring break. The Tuesday night District 15-5A opener vs. West Mesquite is followed by home games today vs. Van (2:30 p.m.) and tomorrow vs. Nevada Community (12:30 p.m.). Friday night brings the return trip to West Mesquite.
TRACK & FIELD
The Bulldogs staged their second annual Robyn Hill Relays last Thursday and celebrated with a big day in the relays. The RCHS girls won both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400-meter relays with the boys winning the 4 x 400 and finished second in both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100.
Individually, Michaela Travers won both the 800 meters and 300-meter hurdles for girls with other wins going to Kayla Deal (girls 400), Kayla Hutchins (girls triple jump), Brooklyn Allison (girls pole vault) and Logan Combs (boys 400).

The RCHS boys broke a six-game scoreless streak last Tuesday with a 2-1 win over North Forney, getting goals from Fernando Viveros and Giovanni Chivarri. They followed with a 2-0 loss to Mesquite Poteet.
The boys, in sixth place in District 15-5A, will not qualify for the playoffs and finish their season at home next Friday night vs. Lucas Lovejoy.
The Lady Bulldogs remain in playoff contention, but could also miss the postseason after losses vs. North Forney (2-0) and Poteet (2-1) last week.
Following Senior Night ceremonies prior to Tuesday’s final home game against district leader Highland Park, the girls close the regular season at winless Lovejoy next Friday night.
