Royse City used a stifling defense to shut out defending district champion Corsicana 27-0 on Friday night in District 8-5A-II football.
The homecoming Bulldogs held Corsicana to only 54 yards rushing as they ended the Tigers’ five-game winning streak and remained in a tie with Greenville for third place in 8-5A-II at 3-1. Royse City, which had an eight-game winning streak ended last week by Ennis, is now 5-1 for the season.
Corsicana dropped to 5-2 and 4-1.Â
Royse City will play Greenville on its homecoming on Friday. Greenville won its game on Friday, 28-16 over Terrell.
The Bulldogs crowned Eli Wooten as the homecoming king and Ellie Homan as the homecoming queen.
Royse City scored at the 7:52 mark of the first quarter on an 8-yard touchdown run by Payton Petroff. Anthony Ortiz booted the first of three successful extra points.
